Drake Bay is also a center of varied and excellent restaurants. From the haute cuisine, which today incorporates international elements, of the Sugar Mill Restaurant to local food at a group of roadside stalls called the "Fish Fry" at Little Apple Bay; it's all here on the Drake Bay.
Typical Drake Bay, Costa Rica food is not only delicious but easy to make. The main things are usually grains (rice, beans, and chickpeas) and some vegetables. One of the most famous Drake Bay foods is "E1 Casado" worked in the family in the early years.
"Casado" is a combo of rice and beans supplemented with cabbage and tomato salad, fried plantains, and the meat of the day: Chicken, fish or beef, sometimes it may include a fried egg or fried yucca on the side.
Earlier vegetables were not so popular, but new generation has become more conscious about their eating habits. One can find a variety of vegetables are "Picadillos" (Minces of Chayote, Vainicas (string beans) or potatoes with ground beef) or Platano Asado (Baked Plantain); this one could be served with white cheese as a side dish at dinner or lunch or with sugar as a dessert. Another dish rich in vegetables is the "Olla de Carne", a beef soup full of potatoes, chayote, pumpkins and cauliflower.
At Drake Bay, One can find local West Indian food restaurant as well as Lobster, Crab Quesadillas, burgers and rotis. For dinner one can enjoy fresh fish grilled or cooked in banana leaf, lobster and the new chef's Honey Mint Rack of Lamb. And don't forget the sunset cocktails. Four nightly selections of full four course dinners includes favorites such as chicken and coconut, fresh fish (all kinds including yellowtail snapper and triggerfish) boiled with onion sauce (ladled on going to the table), curried goat boiled in a shell and served with hot butter and lime. Breadfruit soup (cooked with thyme, celery, sweet peppers, onion and milk, and salt and white pepper to taste) is often the first course, served with her own baked bread.
